AG Domain: What was your favorite event?
Craig Charles: Powerball.
AGd: Did you enjoy watching yourself "kick butt" on TV?
CC: I had a great time watching the show. We had a gladiator party and I was smiling ear to ear.
AGd: Who was the greatest competitor (in your opinion) as far as contenders go?
CC: As far as all the shows that I have watched, I think that Mark Ortega was by far the best competitor.
AGd: What did you think of your competitors, Mark Anthony and grand champion Mark Ortega?
CC: Mark Anthony did not belong there, but Mark Ortega was a great athlete and a good person. It was a bit unfortunate that I was matched with Ortega in the second round.
AGd: What inspired you to do so well in AG?
CC: I have always had a super competitivee spirit. I do great at individual sports. I boxed in college and I hated to loose at anything.
AGd: If you could do it all over again, what would you have done differently?
CC: If I could have done it over, I would have practiced the wall more. That psychologically hurt me.
AGd: What kind of fame has AG brought you?
CC: The only fame that AG brought me was alot attention at my 20 year high school reunion.
AGd: Do you have a favorite moment on AG?
CC: My favorite moment on AG was the first 10 seconds on joust on my first show when I was wailing on Gemini. I think it was Gemini, but the look on his face was, 'what in the hell just happened'. He ended up winning though.
AGd: Which male or female gladiators did you like the best?
CC: I liked Nitro the best. He was fun to be around behind the scenes.
AGd: Easiest event?
CC: Easiest event -- Eliminator.
AGd: Hardest event?
CC: Hardest event -- Joust. The Gladiators were difficult to move.
AGd: If AG were re-created, would you be interested as a contender or gladiator?
CC: I would love to do the Gladiators again. I could especially kick ass in my age group.
AGd: Relating to the last question, if you could have a say on one thing in a new American Gladiators, what would it be?
CC: I would make the events longer so that you would need to be more cardiovascular.
AGd: When did you first grow interested, or hear about American Gladiators?
CC: I saw a 1990 episode while living in Duluth, MN and some friends said that I could do that so easy.
AGd: What have you been doing lately?
CC: I work for the Department of Homeland Security and I train about 15 hours a week competing in Iron Man competitions in my spare time. I also got married and have two great kids. My son, Tristan - age 4, will be a great candidate for kids Gladiators. He is tough and won't stop.
AGd: Anything else you'd like to say?
CC: Well, I would like to promote a Gladiator show with old contenders. If any and all are still in shape. I know that I am still ready.
AGd: Time for some word association. I'll say a name or phrase and you give me the first few words that pop into your head-
AGd: Powerball
CC: Greatest event.
AGd: Larry Csonka
CC: Monster human.
AGd: Swingshot
CC: Great event that they would not let us do on TV.
AGd: Turbo
CC: I injured him in Powerball.
AGd: The Eliminator
CC: I was born to do that event. I think I had the record.
AGd: The fans
CC: Crazy.
AGd: Assault
CC: Cool event, make it longer.
AGd: Laser
CC: Stud.
AGd: Ice
CC: I got racked on an event and she wanted to put ice on it.
AGd: Mike Adamle
CC: Star gazer.
AGd: Nitro
CC: Cool off stage, jerk on stage.
AGd: American Gladiators
CC: Great idea. I feel priviliged to be a part of it.
AGd: Now finally, give us a run-through of a day in the life of season three contender Craig Charles during the American Gladiator tapings-
CC: Wake up eating bagels, apple sauce and bananas. Get picked up for practice by the shuttle and train for a couple of hours. Eat a great spread that the AG put on. Go to the gym, hit weights and then lay by the pool. Eat a good dinner and then hit the town. I have alot of friends that live in LA so I had a little bit too good of a time at night. Maybe thats why I was eliminated in round two. GREAT paid vacation.
