Gladiator Moments

-The Kyler Storm Breakthrough Flip-

In 1995, contender and season six grand champion Kyler Storm competed in the Battle of the Best II, against season five grand champion Wesley "Two Scoops" Berry. In event number two, Breakthrough & Conquer, Kyler performed the amazing, by doing a complete flip over Turbo into the end zone, to earn five points.

The all-time record crowd at Gladiator Arena was definately stunned by this showing. Fans started shouting "Replay, Replay!" The move was originally planned for execution in season six, but referee Larry Thompson did not allow him to do it (citing insurance reasons). This time though, Kyler kept his mouth shut, and won over the envy of everyone in the greater-Los Angeles area. This episode was memorable for him because later he out-foxed himself in the Joust, blew a 20 point lead to Wesley Berry, and got punched by Turbo in Swingshot.

-Brian Hutson Sends Malibu Flying on Human Cannonball-

In the preliminaries of season one, Brian Hutson defeated Hosea Simmons 430-335. Despite the victory, this episode will be remembered for one big collision- Hutson's hit on Malibu during Human Cannonball. Going into the third swing, Hutson was 1-for-2 against Nitro and Gemini. After trying to 'pump up' the crowd with gyrations and fist thrusts, Hutson was ready to swing. It was the thud heard 'round the world-- his shot was square to Malibu's chest, sending him flying to the mats below.

On impact with the mats, Malibu's left knee made contact with his forehead, giving him a gladiator-sized gash. Malibu would be taken to the locker room, then to the emergency room for five stitches. During this time, alternate gladiator Bronco was brought in for Simmons' final swing. Upon return from commercial, an interview with Malibu confirmed that he was "healed by mother nature," with a brewski in one hand and a beautiful babe in the other. Theismann especially got a kick out of Malibu's misfortune on HC, and would make reference to it many times throughout the later rounds. In addition, this moment would be featured in season four, in a segment called "Zonka's Zonks."

-Gemini/Billy Wirth Fight-

Season One was host to one of the greatest Powerball moments ever, maybe even one of the greatest of all-time American Gladiators history. It all started out innocently when the match started, by after a hit by Gemini to Billy, the heat was on. Immediately following that move, Billy countered by taking his ball and throwing it at the back of Gemini's head.

As Billy was going back to the bin to grab another ball, Gemini chased after him and proceeded to slam him to the ground, where a fist-fight ensued. It took a few seconds before some members of the American Gladiators crew were able to break it up, but this critical moment in AG history surely legitimized the show.
