The American Gladiators

The American Gladiators were the heart of the series. The mighty gladiators would match strengths with the contenders at every turn, looking for another victory. In the first half of season one, the glads carried a 'character' with them into the arena (i.e. surfer, hot head, all-american woman). That idea was later trashed going into the latter portion of season one, while many of those same charactistics lingered on for seasons to come. At this point the gladiators were fiery, but carried a humble attitude. Very few exceptions appeared (Viper, etc.), but it was very apparent that sportsmanship was the focus of AG. There were a total of 33 gladiators that appeared on the television series. Another twenty or so were featured in the Orlando Live show or on tour.
