Dan "Nitro" Clark is one of the most "well-known" American Gladiators ever. He came onto the show as an original gladiator in 1989, and stayed until the end of season three. Two seasons later, he would make a comeback in 1994-1995, his last tour of duty in the gladiator spandex. Following that season, he would return again to Gladiator Arena-- this time replacing Lisa Malosky as co-host in 1995. In season one, Nitro came in as the "tempermental, cocky, physical" character. He was the first to start arguments, and always made sure to back them up with on-field performances. Fans quickly saw how adept Nitro was at all of the events, more specifically in the conquer ring. In the beginning of season one, producers chose to run Dan in the Breakthrough portion. Although he was very formidable (including one major highlight reel hit), he would later replace Malibu in the conquer ring-- a move which would solidify his best event for years to come. As the years passed, Nitro left his "character" at home, but kept that intensity and enthusiasm. He became more at home in Conquer, leading to a stellar record, and a big showdown with season three contender Darrell Gholar (Gholar won). In addition, Nitro adjusted to every new event, and became the quintessential gladiator. He fought through pain as well, when he herniated a disk in his lower back on the Tug O War in season six. Eventually, Dan decided to leave Gladiator Arena one final time, for good-- before making a return as co-host to Mike Adamle in 1995. The tandem of Mike Adamle and Dan "Nitro" Clark seemed well-fashioned. Mike provided much of the commentary, while Nitro focused on interviews and "the gladiator's perspective". Both presenters created much chemistry, but it was ill-fought, as American Gladiators left the airwaves following that season. All-in-all, Nitro was a fantasic gladiator and a great co-host. His name is definitely symbolic with American Gladiators...
