Galen Tomlinson was an outstanding gladiator, more commonly known as Turbo. During his peak, Turbo was 6'1" and weighed 215 lbs. Turbo served as gladiator captain, and was frequently touted as the best all-around gladiator. Fans often were urged on to "rev it up" for Turbo, during his best events. Turbo was fantastic on the rings, posting a stellar record in Hang Tough. His dominance was not only contained to rings, as he also excelled in Assault, Swingshot, Powerball, and Atlasphere.
Besides dominating events, Turbo was also usually at the center of all of the action or controversy. After playing through a great first season in 1990-1991, he came back in 1991 and suffered the biggest injury in gladiators history. During a game of Powerball, Turbo went for a tackle and hyperextended his knee. Despite the severity of the injury, he would return for a game of Assault, just before leaving for 10 months of hard rehabilitation.
In season seven, two of Galen's most infamous moments took place. The first (and less climatic) happened between Turbo and contender Remy Smith. It was in Assault, and Remy had thrown both balls from the 5th station, after time had expired. Turbo then fired the rest of his rounds in Remy's direction, and said "Don't shoot at me after you're dead!"
The biggest moment of them all came in the greatest episode of them all, the Battle of the Best II. Featuring contenders Wesley "Two Scoops" Berry, Kyler Storm, Peggy Odita, and Adrienne Sullivan, this episode was sure to be a show-- and it was. After the first event (Pyramid), the men moved to Breakthrough & Conquer. Kyler Storm was up first, and did a flip over a sprawling Turbo for 5 points. Turbo was congratulatory (as was everyone in Gladiator Arena), but the goodwill didn't last.
Later in Swingshot, Turbo would see that Kyler was effectively "faking" (Instead of jumping off of the platform, he would fake a jump to get Turbo in the air, and once Turbo returned, he would have a free run at the hanging cylinder). Seeing this, Turbo punched Kyler in the face, causing him to be disqualified. It definately became a heated moment in American Gladiators history!
Next gladiator... Viper.
