AG Domain: First of all, thanks for doing this. Anyways, what was your experience like on American Gladiators?
Kyler Storm: Gimme a sec to think about it for a sec, okay? You can stop it [the recorder] if you want, I'll tell you when I put it together. You mean overall, right?
AGd: Overall.
KS: Overall. Hmm... the whole concept to compete on a national scale with professional athletes, and outsmart them at their own game.
AGd: Okay, now a little bit easier. What was your favorite event on the show?
KS: I like the Pyramid.
AGd: The Pyramid, oh yeah... Did you enjoy watching yourself kick butt on TV?
KS: Yes, for two reasons. Umm, I was told that if you work out with dumbells you become a dumbell... in my past. And so, this was a vendetta or a way to prove to my critics that you can be successful in a physcial arena and not only win, but be the champ.
AGd: Let's see, who's your greatest competitor as far as contenders go?
KS: Umm, I have no idea on that one... sorry.
AGd: That's okay. What did you think of Wesley "Two Scoops" Berry?
KS: Fastest man I've ever met.
AGd: Fastest man you've ever met... alright. What inspired you to do the flip in the Breakthrough & Conquer?
KS: You're gonna have to pause that one again for a second... Okay, in my first show, Powerball. I did a leap over Turbo. Just an ordinary jump, and he tackled me. And he said in his interview, if I can quote him... just gimme a second. "Any man that tries to go over the top of me, this is the result every time". Look up the tape. So, that was the first show. So, then I said, "I'm just gonna show you what else that I can do", because you're trying to instigate that I dont have what it takes to go against ya... so why don't I just burn the hell out of 'ya.
AGd: Okay, if you could do it all over again, what would you have done differently?
KS: I would've... like for the whole show?
AGd: Yeah, just the entire experience. I've had people they would've done 'this' differently in Powerball, and I've had somebody say that they would've ate a bigger breakfast the morning of the competition. Just different stuff like that.
KS: Okay. Umm... I wish I had people in the crowd that I knew personally, that could encourage me.
AGd: Alright.
KS: Yeah, I was all along out there, so...
AGd: So let's see... what kind of fame has American Gladiators brought you?
KS: No so much anymore, but back in the day. I've done let's see, the news interviews, I've done alot of speaking to the youth on lateral thinking, thinking out of the box, finding an egde, what's efficent, practical, simplest, and that has helped set me up with my business. It's given the public a chance to see that a gladiator can also be an intellect... and run a business.
AGd: Do you have a favorite moment on American Gladiators?
KS: Ooooh, you've got to turn that off again, I'm gonna think about that. I don't have footage to this tape because I'm still trying to get to it and I'm gonna leave it a little blank because my favorite moment that I did on the 'gladiators' circuit is my competiton against Finland... a guy, Tommy [Vuoristo]. And although I haven't had access to that, if you get access to it you'll see it. You'll obviously see the answer to the question. I'll answer the rest of that question once you and I have viewed that tape together. How's that?
AGd: I can do that.
KS: Alright? It's the United States vs Finland. Kyler vs Tommy, I think was his name.
AGd: Which gladiator or gladiators did you compete with the best?
KS: Laser and Sabre. Now Laser, he had an incredible amount of agility for a big guy. So when I would compete against him I knew big time that I had to really outsmart him, because he was also smart. Now Sabre-- Sabre, man I think he can bench 500, 550 pounds like 7 or 8 times. He was kind-of my cheer squad, because when I was at the tryouts and he was there, he saw me tryout-- he was real encouraging for me. And then to end the show... the entire from start to finish, and there's Sabre, who knows a little bit about my history from tryouts. And then competing against him in the conquer ring, that was a test because I knew when that whistle blew, I was optimistic on how I was gonna, to win him, but because he benched so much I knew if I could get his shoulders off balance, I could use that to my advantage. Those two rocked, they were good pals.
AGd: Which male or female gladiators did you personally like the best?
KS: Out of all the years of gladiators, or the...
AGd: All the years.
KS: Okay... dang I had a huge crush on Elektra. Yup, even if she had a broken nose. And then Siren was awesome too. One more person who could get on the national scale and her handicap was biological, ya know, that was pretty cool.
AGd: Okay, easiest event?
KS: [pause] Eliminator.
AGd: Really, how?
KS: 'Cause it was more competing against myself, and so I knew what I had to do. and always having that extra few second head start helped me to pace myself in my head what I had to do. And if it weren't for if there were some mishap when I was going up that treadmill when I was going against Paul in the international series, for some reason when I started stepping on the thing, I know I lost my footing or something, I tripped, I tripped or fell or something, it felt like something like kicked in right when I stepped on it, like the thing sped up for a second. So the Eliminator, besides that last one, that last few steps.
AGd: Yeah, I think that was rigged personally. Somehow all of the British people got the bad gladiators, while the Americans were stuck with all the uh, all the...
KS: Between you and I, i would love to know if there were some type of history on that, 'cause there's no way that I could fall so fast on my face, and if there was some reason that they wanted more of a spectacular competition against two different countries instead of two Americans...
AGd: Yeah...
KS: ...other wise I would've faced Wesley on that. If there was a chance to slow the tapes down to see if mine goes a little faster, when I put my foot down, that would be pretty cool.
AGd: Hardest event?
KS: [long pause] Boy, I can't believe the time has gone by so fast... boy I must be havin' a good time!
AGd: Ha ha, yeah. Hardest event?
KS: Hardest event. Okay, let's say it was... [pause] Sky Track.
AGd: Sky Track. Looked pretty hard to me, I don't know... Okay, now if American Gladiators were to be recreated, would you be interested in being either a contender or gladiator?
KS: To be a gladiator. That would be the one next step up from where I am now. I do do that here actually, but the public comes in and they'll try to beat me at my games, there's cash involved if they do. Doesn't happen that often though.
AGd: Relating to the last question, if you could have a say about one thing in a new American Gladiators, what would it be?
KS: I would like to design the entire concept.
AGd: What was it like going to the UK and competing in International Gladiators against some of the world's best contenders?
KS: It was actually fairly easy.
AGd: Easy?
KS: It was. I went against alot of people that had alot of extra bulk, and that would slow them down. I don't. The only event on International Gladiators where I was out of my zone was on the rings. I didn't get my ring rythym goin' and that wasn't even against any of em', that was just myself. It was pretty easy. They were all... the events were a little more spectacular, but heck man, again in that episode against Finland, you'll see some kickin' butt on two events. Skytrack, as well as... ahh I can't remember the name where you're on a bucking bull. You're just beatin' the hell out of each other with a pugil stick. You've probably never seen that, have you?
AGd: Bucking bull?
KS: You've got two bucking type bull things, but you sit on them, they're like a spaceship kinda. Side-by-side, they get these things rockin and spinnin, you've got yourself a club and you're smackin each other. See, thats why you 'gotta get that episode!
AGd: Now see, I'm thinkin it was... in the UK they called the Joust, the Duel, and I think they called that the Joust, if I can remember correctly-- I dont know, but it sounds familiar.
KS: That episode you'll see a whole bunch of cool stuff. If they've edited that episode, 'cause I don't think they really have, I don't think its aired, even just the raw footage... there's some kick-ass entertainment from my side of the world so to speak that we've put into that show. That was a damn good show! That's too bad that didn't air.
AGd: Was there any uhh, animosity or anything toward Wolf after he pushed you off the Pyramid, when you went against Paul?
KS: Umm, gimme a second, alright. [long pause] I'd say there was some animosity, because once again a gladiator physically went outside the realms of competition to try to beat me down. And if that's the only way they can beat me, then the hell with 'em. Ha ha.
AGd: Same thing for Turbo.
KS: Ahh... repeat the quotes, yeah. Umm let's see... ya know what, just in the to keep relations, I'm gonna just say that he had a little too much aggresive breakfast that mornin'.
AGd: Gettin down toward the end here. How did you hear about American Gladiators? How did you find out about it.
KS: Let's see, I was in college and a childhood friend of mine called me up, and he said, 'remember your backyard?' and I go 'yeah' and he said 'then turn on this station at this time' and that's all he said. And so I did and I saw my first episode of gladiators. And they had tryouts at about the same time so I said, hey I'll try that out.
AGd: A little personal here, how have yourself and Candace been doing lately? With the entire experience here, etc...
KS: Awesome. She's a businesswoman and very well eduated and she keeps us... what's a good way to put this? She keeps me refined when it comes to the business.
AGd: What inspired you to create your athletic gym/business?
KS: Okay, this is gonna be a little longer, is that okay with you?
AGd: Oh yeah, that's fine.
KS: Okay. First of all, a new angle to help my self esteem and get known for something in my neighborhood/part of the world so that I would develop a reputation of someone fun and smart at the same time. So thus designing and building these games of strategy and strength, agility and intellect. It separated the name Kyler and Xtreme Fun and Gladiators. The three of them together are a good match. So with that, I would have to say because I didn't compete in any high school or college sports, I wanted to fill that part of my life. Goin' big or goin' home so to speak.
AGd: The shirt?
KS: Yeah!
AGd: Okay, now we're moving on to the final part, some word association. Just give me the first thing that pops into your head right off the bat. We've only got a couple of these, so don't worry- Powerball.
KS: I'm a little bit... just real quick im a little bit more of a thinker.
AGd: Dont worry about it.
KS: Okay, go ahead.
AGd: Powerball.
KS: Strategy.
AGd: Being one of the most popular contenders ever.
KS: National athlete.
AGd: Being one of the best contenders ever.
KS: Smart guy can win a physical fitness contest.
AGd: Ice.
KS: Gay and fun. She's a lesbian.
AGd: Swingshot.
KS: Catch me if you can.
AGd: Hawk.
KS: Shared his intellect.
AGd: Dan Cunningham.
KS: Great smile.
AGd: Hang Tough.
KS: Play the game against ya'.
AGd: Winning the Grand Championship.
KS: You work out with a dumbell, you don't become a dumbell.
AGd: The Eliminator.
KS: Easy.
AGd: Mike Adamle.
KS: My pal! Real quick on that- Mike Adamle at the very last show, best of the best, on an interview I have of my own personal camcorder, he said "one of these days Kyler, you're gonna be doin' something spectacular" and I never had people actually really tell me that. So I kinda look at him as the guy that sparked me to achieve a little higher standard.
AGd: I've been trying to get in contact with him too, because I guess he's the sports director for the CBS Chicago affiliate. So I've been trying to get in contact with him. Okay, Nitro.
KS: Don't pick up on my girlfriend next time.
AGd: Jazz.
KS: Steel and velvet.
AGd: Pyramid.
KS: Like treadin' water.
AGd: Turbo.
KS: I have no comment on that. I know thats gonna bite me in the butt one of these days. I'll just say that I don't wanna deal with him again.
AGd: American Gladiators.
KS: A sounding board for the future of a kid that had to grow up as a nobody, didn't have a support group behind, to a national athlete of regognition.
AGd: Anything else you'd like to say?
KS: Let's start another concept of Xtreme Fun on the national level. And give me some people to contact and resources and let's see how easy this is to put together.
